Over the years, the word "conspiracy theory" has gained a negative connotation, as many associate the term with individuals who are "paranoid," "anti-social" or "crazy." However, the most prominent members of the 9/11 Truth Movement are not associated with being "crazy, paranoid nuts," but are generally noted for being scholarly and level-headed individuals.

Just like there are many schools of thought within one religion, there is also many theories and interpretations that are made be individuals of the 9/11 Truth Movement. However, the one common thread to all the 9/11 Conspiracy Theories is that the official story of 9/11” is false and the U.S. government at least has some negligence in the tragedy.

There are two major schools within in the different 9/11 Conspiracy Theories. One group believes in a conspiracy theory in which the U.S. government knew of the upcoming al-Qaeda plot and let the terrorists attacks happen. This 9/11 Conspiracy Theory is called Let It Happen on Purpose, or LIHOP theory.

The other 9/11 Conspiracy Theory is MIHOP, or Make It Happen ON Purpose. This theory speculates that certain individuals and groups within the U.S. government helped plan and/or execute the September 11th terrorist attack on America.

Even within these two schools of the 9/11 Conspiracy Theories, there is a wide range beliefs. Some 9/11 conspiracies speculate that controlled explosives in addition to the planes hitting the Towers led to the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings. Another 9/11 Conspiracy Theory speculates that there may not have been a plane that hit the Pentagon.
